Rethinking the Web Browser (Thursday section)

UPDATE: The Wednesday Section is sold out, but there are still spots in the Tuesday section and Thursday section. All sections will cover the same material.

The web browser has become an essential tool for research, work, and leisure. Canadians browse the web an average of 2.5 hours per day (ComScore 2015). Web browser design, however, has stagnated: we surf one page at a time, with back/forward buttons to travel through recent history. Tabs let us explore many pages at once, but retain no information about their relationship to one another. The browser does not accommodate the way we use the web. Some of us bookmark or copy/paste URLs, while many others leave an anxiety-inducing number of tabs open. Meanwhile, advertisers efficiently analyze our history for profit.

This workshop will problematize homogeneous web browser design, then open the conversation to the group for a collaborative design workshop. Expect to listen, talk, and draw on whiteboards.
